Hello!

I'm relatively new to Octane, having recently installed a GTX980Ti which is smokin' and I'm trying to get my head around Octane.

Every time I add the light tag to a C4D light, Octane crashes C4D. The light tag only seems to work on the C4D area lights, so when I add it, I can maybe move it once, and then it crashes, every single time.
Funny thing is, I can create a plane, and put a blackbody emission texture on that, and it works like an area light, but then I don't have the Camera visibility checkbox...

Is this a common problem? My specs are in the signature.

Thank you!

I have checked the 2.23 demo for Windows version. There is no any problems. Maybe a issue which is related with OSX version. But i don't suppose that.
As a information, Octane has not any light types. We export the arealight as meshes and apply some emission(Blackbody/Texture Em.) textures. Also It's not required to add lighttag to arealights. It will be converted to emissive meshes by default. But Lighttag gives better control for emissive textures on arealights. Is this crash occurs on simple scenes? Can you render scenes without lights?

Hello Aoktar!

Yeah you're right, I don't have to use the light tag! Didn't know that! I'm trying it in a very simple scene (a cube on a plane and one light), and without light tag it works fine but as soon as I add it to the light it crashes.

You asked if I can render scene without lights, how do you mean?

Hi there,
I'm just investigating that's a limitation problem due a complex scene. But it looks like another problem if it happens on simple scene. I'll check also OSX demo but i don't remember a report like that.
Are you using 2.23.2 demo? Can you put a bugreport.zip if it's generated?

Hi Macurt,
I have a system just like yours (only less powerful), but I do not have any kind of crash when adding an Octane Light tag to a c4d light object. The tag works only with infinite and area light type, all the other type simply does not emit light... but octane does not crash with the demo 2.23.2.R6.2
What happen if you use the shortcut for creating an octane area light from the live view menu or via shift+C command?
Octane normally works only with mesh light like you have tried (plane, cube or whatever mesh), so is not a funny thing but just like the things must go ;)
Area light are an exception, like a shortcut, but is better to work with mesh emitter in general.
For the camera visibility, simply assign an octane object tag or play with the opacity in the diffuse material assigned ;)

Hello guys!

I'm using 2.23.2 R6.2

Beppe - your system is not quite the same as mine, you're using another OS and another version of C4D. Maybe this is something to look into? Also, I have x-particles installed, I heard that it can cause a conflict with Octane. But I'm not using it in the scene so it shouldn't be that...
Interestingly I can create an Octane area light as you described, and it works perfectly without crashing! But as soon as I do it the other way (creating c4d area light and then putting the octane light tag on it) it crashes immediately.

Aoktar - I know more specifically what causes the crash now. I can actually create a C4D area light and apply the light tag, and then render it without crash. BUT if I have the live viewer open before I add the light tag, it crashes. If I don't have the live viewer open, then I can add the light tag, then open the live viewer and everything works fine!
Beppe - maybe you can try to do what I described and see if you can create the crash too?
I have a bugreport.zip, should I send it to you?

If you don't activate "Particle Engine", XP will not cause any problem. Also adding tags to lights that shouldn't cause any crash with or without LV. Can you send me this "bugreport.zip"? It can show the crash point.
EDIT: That's shame for me. I think that you're right. I tried the demo on OSX and crashing if you add light tag to arealights. I'll investigate it more. Sorry for this. As a workaround you can directly use LV's Objects Menu. It has Octane Light command.

Okay, at least it's good to know it's not my system specifically that causes the crash. Ha ha, no need to be sorry, it's good that I found a bug I guess? And I can still use the command from the LV so it's cool!
Do you still want me to send my bugreport?

My pleasure :)
Maybe there's room for me in the beta group? ;)
