Hi All,

Sorry if i am asking the same question but i have searched high and low for answer on this and can not seem to get any.

We brought octane some months ago and i have to say and i speak for everyone here you really have done a great job, i feel as GPU's and chips become pennys octane will be number 1 render
because of its speed and outstanding results.

Was there a beta for octane render 3.x for 2.x users in june?
Also do we have a ruff idea of a release date for this, from what i can tell no one is giving out any information at all so we could have 3.0 next week or next year?

The new features in 3.0 are huge like texture baking this is huge for me and can saver so much time plus a ton of other features that the projects i work on would heavily benefit from

if this post is a repeat of many others please do remove it but send me into the re direction before you do :)

Thank you

No words on when the beta will start, but there is a demo you can try right now in your browser, click the "Octane 3 Demo" button on top of this page.

The demo is good, but only show case volumetric rendering and does not showcase any of the other features promised, i know this is an early alpha that was used at OCT 2015.

If this still in early development? do we have a long time to wait

The reason i ask this is i have some huge projects coming up and octane 3.0 new features will allow me to use octane, without these feature and no cloud rendering service as of yet rendering animation
for me in not possible :(

I have a titan x for rendering this works very well for stills but not so great for animation.

Optimize your settings, then use Neat Video for noise reduction. Really really powerful combination for animation IMO. You can look into other noise reduction software but Neat Video is the best, I've used it for a long time with my cameras.

The brighter your scene is, the less noise you see. I would be curious to render the scene 1.5 times brighter, then gamma correct down to the preferred brightness/exposure to see if that result is any better...

Is it fast? Oh, yeah!

Everyone is waiting for v3, the release should be scheduled for the end of the year, but the Beta is already late, so I wouldn't be surprised if it slips to next year...
For your current or near future projects don't wait for v3, it's not gonna make it on time.

It is never a good idea to plan any project around a version of Octane that is not out of beta, even for 2.x releases.

We are still planning to release 3.0 for the end of this year, assuming we get through alpha and beta without any major surprises during the next few months. Alpha is expected to be ready in the coming 3-4 weeks, with baking support, which opens the door to UE4 and other plug-ins that depend on this feature. Also pause/resume render to disk and not losing samples when network nodes disconnect are planned to be completed in that time frame.

I'm looking into a few game engines for development,
will Otoy/Octane integration with UE4 be better than Unity?

Or is this just a plugin thing

Thanks in advance

r-username, use UE4 either way, the node system is just amazing and it outperforms Unity by a long shot. ;)

Yes, but, well, Q1 2016 is when there's a release of CV1 and Vive.
Without Octane content with V3 features, whole Virtual Reality will fail miserably.
