Hi Paul - it's been about a year since I've used the Revit . I just spent the weekend with the 2.24 version and it's very, very nice. I used to export Revit to dwg and import into 3ds Max to do all of my production rendering, but the plugin interface had made that unnecessary, with the exception of proxy scattering. In 3ds max I used Multiscatter and would routinely scatter 500,000 to 700,000 thousand grass proxies but I'm limited in the plugin to 50,000. I need to use smaller grass .obj/orbx files to respect the boundaries of vegetation areas. Being limited to 50,000 proxies forces me to use larger .orbx files and the grass proxies spill over the boundaries. Is it possible to increase that limitation?

I'm using Phantom Scatter. If I could scatter 500,000 -700,000 proxies over a surface I would never have to go into 3ds max. I could do all of my production rendering in Revit which makes life so much easier.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi Ed - I will in increase the maximum limit to 1 million. If you let me know which version of Revit you are using, I'll post a pre-release here.

Paul - one other thing. Is it possible to copy an object and have the proxy .orbx or .obj file remain attached? I'm "painting" a surface with trees and it would be really helpful if I didn't have to re-assign a proxy every time I copied, or instanced a Revit object.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed - I tried without success to do this some time back. So instead, added the Copy ('C' button), Paste ('P' button) and Replicate ('R' button) next to the proxy button to allow you to quickly copy proxy info between family instances.

Hi Ed. The installer below is a pre-release of the next version, and has the max transforms increased to 1 million.

Thanks Paul - too bad about the proxy issue, but I get it. The plugin is fantastic. I've shown some of my co-workers what can be done inside Revit and it's a game changer for us.
I did have one small issue yesterday though. I set up a bunch of views and saved the rendertarget to view inside Revit. I closed the Revit file and when I reopened, all the settings were back to defaults. I started to export the rendertarget settings per view as a precaution. Are those two things related?

This should not happen, and it's not something I have seen before. It should not be possible to loose the rendertargets attached to the views. If this happens again, can you pls send me the journal file for that Revit session?

Paul - the increase in the proxy limit works very nicely. Thanks. As far as replicating proxies- can an option be added to the "R" toggle in the materials dialogue box to replicate all information to only selected proxies? That way I could "paint" a bunch of instances, change them all globally, then select a group of families and change the selected properties. In multiscatter I could "paint" instances and it would randomly change the scale, rotation, etc. If I select individual families in Revit and change the parameters of just those instances, it would be the next best thing to having Multiscatter running inside of Revit.

I'm still having problems with the Revit scene saving the rendertarget once I "Save Rendertarget to View". When I save and reopen the scene it defaults back to "Default rendertarget". Can you tell me where the journal file is located?

Thanks again for the quick response and fixes. It's very usual and welcome.

Yes, this should be possible (it's implemented in the ArchiCAD plugin) - it wil ltry to add this to the next release of the plugin.

If this is only happening on a particular Revit scene, and is reproducible 100% of the time, would it be possible to send me the scene pls? paul at physicalc-software dot com. Yes see viewtopic.php?f=61&t=42589 for the location of your journal file.

Thanks
