Hi there, playing around with IES lights in DAZ plugin, when i select the type of file to add it cant seem to find .ies files only image type. Is there a way to load .ies with the plug in and I assume I load them in the Distribution PIN?

Hi,
yes, if you load a grayscale image node, the IES file are not listed and selectable. You need to load the IES file from the right part of the nodegraph editor or in the attributes on the material in the Materials tab: ciao beppe

I would just add that for IES lights working in a predictable way it is also important to set the projection to linear with normal coordinate space. At least that is what I have to do in order for the IES file to project the light the way it should and in order for it to follow the normal vector of the polygon/surface it is assigned to.

Hi,
sorry, yes I forgot to mention about the normal space, but about the projection, in theory it should be set to Spherical Projection, since the IES files have informations at 360°. Here is the differences between the Linear and the Spherical Projection: ciao beppe

Very helpful info about using IES files. Thanks!

thanks all very useful but still,,, I am unsure how to load IES file that is not part of the Octane IES files. Is there a way to browse to the IES files I have purchased?
The Poser plugin basically allowed us to click on the browse button and go where ever we needed to go to load in the distribution node, i cant seem to figure out how to do this in the daz plug in , i can see how to load the default Octane ISE files.. but not how to navigate my PC file system to get to the IES files i have

Maybe just browse for the custom IES files you have, just like you would in Poser Plugin?bpzen wrote:thanks all very useful but still,,, I am unsure how to load IES file that is not part of the Octane IES files. Is there a way to browse to the IES files I have purchased?
