I've invested into reference design 980 ti's. However, the performance is not as I expected.

Currently I'm getting 108 in octanebench score - the average seems to be 127 - wanted to ask abut possible causes of this.

The unit I2m testing with is dedicated to rendering, no monitor/operatingSystem usage.

instyal GPU-Z & make some prinscreens of card sensosrs before & during rendering..

Might be the case where Youtr card runs at lower clock speeds due to temperature & such.

after seeing it in action under load, You can instal afterburner & manually tweak some settigns, like raising fan speed, bumping temperature target, manually offseting core & memory clocks =)

what is Your system (case/case fans in particular)?

You card runs at 75C without any load??? at load it does boost up, as performance is temperature capped..so here is the thing..

1st You need more airflow thru the case, tune fan speeds to get better temps & then, only then You can expect somewhat better performance.

Modifying fans (case and cards) to work at 100% load lowers the cards down to 37 degrees, however everything is very, very loud.
I might have sent you a screen grab of idle, not so far away a load. When the mchine is turned on the idle temps are around 48 degrees (with default fan speeds), however after load it does not go back to 48, ever. Lowest I can see is 65.

You may use custom fan profile in msi ab
3090, Titan, Quadro, Xeon Scalable Supermicro, 768GB RAM; Sketchup Pro, Classical Architecture.
Custom alloy powder coated laser cut cases, Autodesk metal-sheet 3D modelling.

we've noticed that after You put some load into Octane Your GPU still keeps something in it until You switch of programs or do smth like restart the system, temperature do stay a bit higher..but..nevertheless =) You stilll need to do some tweaking if You want to get higher results, better rendering speed..

Another thing to keep in mind, that when You buy card they are all slightly different, some run cooler some hoter..the same with cases, their airflow (based on internal setup, HDD placement, even wiring..) Some fans are louder but less effective, & some case are more restrictive than others..

As Smicha mentioned - You can tweak fan curves to take RPMs down, when there's less load & bring them up faster when temperature start rissing - this way You can control noise a bit. But that takes time.. (don't be discourage though as if You tweak once then You can forget & go on for years =)

Currently all my fans are modified to work on 100% - just for testing purposes. Did not change the performance as far as it seems (getting +-1 of the same score)

Then do things manually : install Afterburner or Precission X, set higher temp target & offset core in small steps everytime doing a test run.

My reference cards are placed exactly like this:

I've played with the fan settings, but overall heat is still a trouble. Are these setups bad for octane in general? (reference cards stacked without additional gaps)
I see those setups pretty frequently as I believe some like me prefer to stick without water cooling solutions for the sake of simplicity of the setup.
