Just loaded up Windows 10 and am getting all my lightwave stuff put together. I'm getting a strange error that Lightwave "Cannot Load external plug-in file"

No matter what plugin I choose from Octane builds it says the same error. However I can load any other plugin and it works fine.

Have no idea what that could mean? Is it a licensing issue somehow? I've licensed the machine for Standalone and it pulls up just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated...need to get back to work :)

also have seen the error - Plugins were not found or could not be added. When I select the .p file to load.

Could there possibly need to be a special build for Windows 10 like XP? Anyone else see an issue or am I missing something?

ok very strange but all is running fine now. I ended up deleting all my OCTANE config and license files. Started doing some other things and now about an hour later I try to load up the .p files and they pull in just fine 129 plugins added. I then re-activated the machine with un pass and all is good.

That's crazy...no telling what was going on. Sorry for the thread...

Thanks for letting us know, could you please explain (a bit off-topic) how your upgrade to Win10 went?
Do you happen to use any of ZBRush, RealFlow, XFrog, MarvelousDesigner and if so, how they work after upgrade?
And did you do clean install or does the upgrade from Win7 really work? Any problems with drivers (NVIDIA or others)?

I am sorry to ask these but you are first good source for these especially for LW/Octane

Thank you and have a nice day :)

Perhaps the problem was the Visual C++ 2012 redistributable package. I am not sure if Windows 10 needs a new one, and an update or some other application installed in your computer after the first attempts of load the plugin could have installed it.

That certainly could have been the case...it was very strange. I don't think I did anything that changed...tried several things over and over with same results...then all of a sudden, the plugin loads just fine! computers!!! lol.

But Win 10 probably downloaded an update or something got installed with the package you mention. Would make sense, as it wouldn't read the .p file so that means like you said it probably needed that package to make sense of the encoding or something.

Thanks for the reply juanjo!

so I upgraded "in place" over 8.1 pro at the house and it went super smooth. figured I'd do the same at the office (I'm our IT too...lol) So it did not go nearly as smooth. Long story short I ended up having to clean install Windows 8.1 from media then do in place upgrade to 10 which finally did go smooth as butter.

As for apps, I don't typically use any of those...but have used almost everyone in the past. So I can't speak to there stability etc. But LW and Octane once I got configured and licensed properly was all good. Did some rendering overnight (Uusing BNR and 2 Titan's on one machine) and everything went smooth. No crashes or issues.

I'll know more once I get "working" in the apps more day to day. Biggest concern is the auto updates with graphics drivers. This is not a good idea IMO. We need more granular control over Updates...but MS thinks we all need to stay on the cutting edge of updates. Maybe the 3rd parties will do better on keeping things updated and solid and we will get better updates from NVidia...recently it hasn't been great for me...my Win 8.1 install still had like 354 drivers or something (can't remember).

All in all I really like 10, had installed an early Insider Program version on an extra machine..but things have changed quite a bit since that build. Quite snappy and some nice "minor enhancements" I'm seeing all over the place.

If you have the time, make a good back-up (I didn't) and then jump right in.

Thank you very much for your 'report', in my case it is Win7->10 so I think it will be safest and after all easiest to do clean install. Good time to clean the system too :D

I will not rush into upgrade, I will wait for comments on those software I use to avoid struggling but it is nice to hear that Win10 feels nice even for 3D-techs like us :)

Thank you!
