blobbybarack, yes, other users have been running into this aswell. It's a false positive and acts up because of the way the DRM works. It's a combination of finding out PC hardware, putting your login key in the registry and connecting to my server to check your authenticity.

Phantom Scatter does not use the *.MTL file, but the material names inside the *.OBJ files themselves. They are identified by the 'usemtl' keyword inside *.OBJ files. That's my trick to find out what goes where. That means groups don't matter... if you use a certain material across different groups, it will all still work. (That is, if your final *.OBJ makes use of the 'usemtl' keyword inside the *.OBJ)

*.MTL files contain further info about materials, but not the actual naming.
Maybe another option is to load in your model into Blender as say *.DAE or *.3DS, then export it as *.OBJ for use in Phantom Scatter (don't forget to tell it to triangulate the model).

Thanks for reporting p3taoctane, I will look into it. It runs perfectly fine on my PC, so I'll try if the same problem might happen on my other one. If Phantom Scatter 1.8 runs, this should too... weird. But I'm on it!

I'm working on a brand new Phantom Scatter website. Additional licensing types will be made available.

Hey rappet, no those will get seperate lifetime licenses. Phantom Photo Match is nearing release (and will need to be expanded) and the unannounced product is a long way off (but I think you already know what that is going to be. )

Phantom Scatter 1.8 is b-2 now available! The software is a quick follow-up to the 1.8 b release. I've added an INSET switch under the main options. On very large models, INSET becomes problematic because on import, it checks all the edges with other edges to see what matches up and what doesn't. That way it can determine the outer edge of a scatter surface, so it can apply the INSET along there. But it causes unnecessary slowdown for everyone who doesn't need it. The switch allows you to disable INSET altogether.

I've been spending a bunch of time learning how to make a good scattering setup and vegetation materials. I think I will make an additional chapter in the Phantom Scatter manual on how I put this together. Then everyone with Phantom Scatter will benefit from something as essential to the Octane+Scatter workflow as this :)
