Folks,

I was trying the Skyler Character from Daz and found some odd output in Octane;
http://www.daz3d.com/skyler-character-a ... 2-female-s

First, it has spectacular, SSS maps, and diffuse only. The auto transfer to the plugin put the diffuse into Bump and Displacement, but frankly, they seem to be inverted. The eyebrows go in the surface, not out. Flipping Invert for the textures does nothing meaningful. I tried defining it as color ad grey images as well.

Is there something I'm missing about Invert? I assumed it would do the opposite, and in particular for bump/displacement maps, what ever the source..

On a lark I created normals, only I got weird seams all over the place. (Click! I have both G3F and G2F versions, so I may have created the normals for the wrong skin... lemme check.)

I don't think you are missing anything regarding invert. have you tried using just bump or just displacement to make sure they aren't competing?

Yes... I did both, and tried invert on each one. I also did that with both enabled. Lots 'o combinations, no effect. Both removed is smooth.

The thing I notice is that for instance if I change displacement strength it re-triggers a render, right? Press "invert", and nothing happens.

I also get that there may be something wrong here. It is a color texture being dumped into what is effectively a grey Image slot. I have noticed that there is an invert shader thingy, so maybe I should actually use that.

I just tried it all again and confirmed it. I can't seem to get this to work. Bumps come out inverted, and I can't do anything about it.

If I use normal maps generated from the skins I get more than seams as well. I get linear distortions. Its not subD, or smoothing.

normally invert works fine for me, but I'll admit I dont know I've ever used it for bump. I know I've used it for diffuse, and for grey image maps used for mixing two materials. So invert does work, but maybe there is a particular bug regarding invert and bump maps.

Yeah. Hey. I could convert the image to B/W and see if that works.

I had success by creating black and white bump maps from the textures.
