I feel embarrassed to ask this after many years of using Octane, but.... Ho do you use instances in the Standalone?
I'm not talking about simply copy-pasting and object, I'm talking about a big scene with a lot of grass, and trees, and rocks and whatever... How do I take advantage of the instances for my scene?
Please don't say I have to use the Maya plugin...

You use the scatter node and feed it with a text file your plug-in generates. I think most plug-ins already have it. Otherwise there's a standalone program to make the scattering file for your objects http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33791
