So I finally got my displacement as I like it and I get a render failure half way through the render... !!!

I've included the log but this is what is repeated:

CUDA error 702 on device 1: The device kernel took too long to execute. This can only occur if timeouts are enabled. The context cannot be used anymore and must be destroyed. All existing device memory allocations from this context are invalid and must be reconstructed.
-> could not get memory info

I am utterly gutted by this. I can not believe how much trouble displacement has caused me using octane. It seems that even after all seems well it is not!

Please have patience with me on this, the project I am working on is very large and I'm on my own doing it.

Why is this happening please? I've included a stripped down scene file.

Many thanks for your continued assistance,

Hi Luke,

First please fill your signature with your HW/SW specs. Second please use search button in forum before posting question and be sure that you couldn't found similar issue with some relevant answers. Of course we can be very patient and i can pay all of my work time to you. But other people would not be happy for this, also we can't find time to work on plugins.
Also i'm sure this and your other questions was asked many times..

Best regards,
Ahmet

Hi Ahmet,

I have looked in the search and what I have found isn't helpful. It seems people get this error for a variety of reasons and I cant see an example which is relevant to my situation. Also, the terminology that people are using such as 'TdrDelay ' means nothing to me. I have no idea what that means! I am not a technical user.

Can you please take at look at my issue? If it is an issue that has been asked many times, surely it can be answered easily, No?

Sorry, but I am not being paid for the work I am doing on this and do not have much time. I have spent a lot of money on a PC just so I could use Octane. I'm sure you're very busy but I would appreciate a little more considered help on this.

Thank you,

First you need a little more experience about limitations and how to avoid. Not too hard. Make a search for how to set a TDR delay and set it. Also don't go to very high values of displacement. It's real-time calculation of triangles not pre-tesellated triangles. So it can be very high computational and makes some high delays on GPU and can gives this errors.

Ok I'll take a look...

I guess its a case of breaking down the scene to see where the overload is...

Could you please just answer me one last thing...

I have searched HARD on google and on the Nvidea control panel to see where I change the TDR delay. I cant find anything relevant to the GTX 980. Do you have a link to somewhere that will show me how to change that setting? PLEEEEEEEASSSE! :)

THANKS!
Luke.

You should use SEARCH function of FORUM. I'm writing an answer but anyway do it, that will give more help than me.

Run "regedit" from start menu and find this KEY in registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\TdrDelay

And set it as a high value as 20 or so.

Or just use STANDALONE installer. It should set a registry value for this. I think you need to restart your computer after setted.

Ok got you. Thanks for reiterating that here!

I do use the search option but its A LOT of searching for what in many cases does not get me very far!
