Early today I was showing Octane render to a friend that doesn't do CG stuff, and he was BLOWN AWAY by it.
Sometime we forget that what we do every day, and we consider normal or even boring, can be really amazing for people outside the CG world.
I've recorded a video of what I showed him, just for fun. Feel free to share it, as there might be other people out there that can find it entertaining.

This is not only amazing to people who do not do CG stuff but also puzzles me.

How did you move around the car and scale it in real time in OctaneRender standalone? :?: :geek:

- I read in the youtube information that Octane Standalone version 2.32.2 was used.
Is that a typo or is this video actually some kind of sneak preview what options to move around 3d objects will be included in the next OR version?
This would at least explain why I cannot figure out how it was done with the current control scheme. :?:

- It also seems that the camera target picking mode is enabled.
But I was not able to figure out how that would enable one to move around or scale 3d objects as shown in the video.
With that tool enabled I am able to move the camera and quickly zoom in on marked objects.
But I have not figured out how to enable to pick up and move objects with it.

- I assume that this is an incredibly large HDR envrionment background.
Can you share the source?

- It also seems a plane with matte materials is linked to the car so shadows are cast on the plane.

But I still cannot figure out how one is able to scale and move around objects so effortless in OctaneRender standalone.
It seems the object location and camera movement is linked to the mouse cursor.
I have no clue how to do that in OctaneRender standalone.

Or is this just an optical illusion and actualy the car stays in place and the camera is moved around in combination with the HDR background somehow?

Are there some settings and keyboard shortcuts I am missing or is a 3rd party hardware used like provided by 3Dconnexion that allows advanced interaction with OR standalone to place and scale objects?

LOL linvanchene, it's just a simple mind trick, I'm not scaling or moving the car, I'm just zooming the camera in and out.
The shadow under the car makes your brain believe that the car is in the environment, but it's just an illusion.
Sometimes I rotate the camera, and sometimes I rotate the environment, simple as that. ;)
This trick can be done with any object in any environment, as long as you put a plane with a shadow catcher material under it.
Yes, it's the standalone 2.32.2 that everyone has, and the link to that HDR background is in the description of the video on YouTube 8-)

Great Rikk, well done :D
I would expected some material changes on the body of car at some point, and maybe some post effects... just to add a bit of variation
Anyway is amazing how you fit the car in the right place with few clicks, even for an old user like me ;)

Thank you for clearing that up.

Seems it was just wishful thinking on my part after all.
I wanted to see what I hoped would be possible to do "click and drag and drop objects around the scene with the mouse".

The current OR standalone version on June 24 2015 is OctaneRender™ Standalone 2.23.2 :geek:

Thank you for the link to the HDR background. In all the exceitment about the video I just read the visible video information and did not think to click on "show more".
