We've received most of the parts today and setup is under way.

Just a quick question: We are planning to use two 970 (Galax Hof) and one Quadro 4000 on MSI X99A SLI Krait Edition MB. What should be the order of the cards? The 970's need to be on the faster lanes as the quadro is only there for the monitors.

Thanks.

Question: why do you need quadro with poor 21 score in Octane?
Question2: how much did you pay for 970?

Hey;

1- We need the Q4 to work in 10bit (DaVinciResolve)
2- $450 for the Galax HOF 970 (We're in Istanbul)

In this case I'd put quadro between 970s to avoid heat transfer and slow down. What is your motherboard?

PS. I think 980ti with 6gb of ram and potentially 140-150 score and only one pcie slot taken on a motherboard and less power usage and more room for expansion would be a be better choice than 2x970...

Hi;

Sadly 980ti is so new the prices are way up here in Istanbul.

We are using MSI X99A SLI. First 2 slots are 16x so we put the wto 970's on those. I'm planning to install the Quadro on the 4th one which is 8x.

There is some heat transfer and on long renders the card on top occasionally hits the 80c mark and throttles down. I dont know which is better though. Leaving the cards like this and letting one of them throttle down a bit or separate them and use one of the card in 8x slot?

Thanks for the help.

I would separate them - throttling reduces speed and increases noise of fans. If you can try both solutions and see how the cards perform.

I guess running two different line of cards with different architectures is not a good idea and we'll run into driver problems so think we'll just stick with 2 gtx setup and leave the quadro out.

If you don't need DP that's a wise move.
