Are you happy to post a screenshot?
Does the material preview ball render ok?
(Right click on the node graph, Materials->Diffuse. This should add the material to the node graph, then you need to left click on it to get octane to render it).

hi,
for now, you can download for for free OctaneVR until the 1 of august. OctaneVR is a full version of OctaneRender with only the net rendering disabled and a max of 2 GPU.

Hi,

I too am having the same problem. I can't view my .OBJ file, and I have tried others. I also have tested those .OBJs both in Rhino, Blender, and an After Effects plugin Element 3D... they work just fine in these programs.

Octane is holding something in its file because it says I have 52K facets.

I have a MBP Retina 2.7 Ghz Intel i7, 16 GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024MB graphics card.

Also - my display is not nearly as sharp as it should be. It looks like screens before the Retina days. This forum's website is nice and crisp - not Octane.

Note - this is a Stand Alone version.

Huge Thanks!
Erik

Hi Erik,
I guess that the internal GPU is too busy because of the retina display, leaving you with very few VRAM to work with
What happen if you reduce the display resolution to 1920 or less?
Obviously this is not the ideal solution, the new v3 and the out-of-core option could be helpful, but in general, an extra GPU is needed via Thunderbolt in order to work smoothly with Octane and Macbook Pro. Here you can find an useful discussion:

Hi Beppe,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I tried setting the resolution to 1920, this just made everything smaller but did not give Octane that 'Retina look', and neither of my two .OBJs were visible. I don't think it needs extra GPU because this computer manages graphics without issue. After Effects with plugins like Element 3D runs just fine. And, I can run Keyshot on Windows' side via Parallels. I have a copy since I have a subscription to Geomagic/Alibre, however that license doesn't allow me more than a .BIP file, so if I want to bring a model into Element 3D with a .MTL file, I can't. I was hoping Octane could do something like this, as I've seen some doing a tutorial on a MAC do this without issue. I don't know if it was MBP, or MAC.

I could go buy external graphics via Thunderbolt, but am concerned this is not the issue, and then I would have something I never use. I may consider it if I at least saw the .OBJ on the screen with a fan spinning like mad and it slowed down my entire MAC.

Thanks for the other posts. I had followed one of them.

Given my additional information, do you have any other ideas?

Thanks,
Erik

Hi Beppe (again),

I found this program DOES run on my computer, because when I selected the DB Tab in the upper left hand corner, I got a list of different textures, so I thought I'd drag a texture on to my .OBJ. I chose Barn Wood, but it didn't place it on the object, it took over. I don't know how to use Octane yet, but wanted to mention that the ball shape with the Octane logo via Barn Wood is displaying on my computer.

Someone did email me about which program I used to produce the file. I shared that it was Rhino. Originally it was a .STL from Fusion 360, but I created the .OBJ in Rhino.

I hope this info helps. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks,
Erik
