I wonder if someone of Otoy could provide some news about the cost of ORC and when they will start charging.

Any news about cost of ORC
We're still in the data gathering phase right now. The goal of ORC is to make offline rendering cheaper, easier and more tractable than using a local render farm.Ron wrote:I wonder if someone of Otoy could provide some news about the cost of ORC and when they will start charging.

And then the 12 gpu limit will be changed to unlimited?Goldorak wrote:We're still in the data gathering phase right now. Any update? I was hoping to see something after SIGGRAPH, but still nothing. Are you guys waiting for Octane 3? I hope not, because it would means many more months of waiting before being able to use ORC.
The service was working well during the Metaverse competition, but now the access is locked, so... what's next?

The beta did go well, and we think we're in good shape for a full commercial release. We are adding billing, job estimation and direct app/plug-in integration. We are not waiting on 3. ORC will be in 2.x as soon as the aforementioned is done.Rikk The Gaijin wrote:Any update? I was hoping to see something after SIGGRAPH, but still nothing. Are you guys waiting for Octane 3? Can we expect to see ORC up and running publicly within September? Or is it unlikely?
We are aiming to have it integrated in 2.25. There will be a monthly fee to cover transfer and storage, with a baseline number of render minutes included. Beyond that you will be able to buy more GPU minutes in buckets as you need them. We added a cost estimator that gives you a GPU time/cost estimate before you choose to launch a render job.
We have added support for passes/layers, cube map videos and light fields.
