Am I right in thinking that I can unwrap this mesh now? I'd like a word or advise on that before I take it much further please.

Many thanks again!
Luke.

Soooo it wasnt good enough and I ended up making a mesh similar to yours, unwrapping the UVs/ projecting them...and yep....the displacement was ... better!
but not perfect ... 85-90% better.... I am seriously hoping hard right now that in V3 the displacement is a lot more robust!! :D

Cheers!
Luke.

@bleepchurchin,

you could try this methode for displacement...

see attached file.

cheers,

Good call DJart,

I just don't want to start subdividing up my meshes... I have hundreds and I'm starting to realise most will be fine with a bump/normal map...

Cheers though.

hi bleepurchin,
I have modified the uv of your second model without changing the polygons subdivision:

As Yambo said, the uv unwrapping is crucial for good displacement ;)

Yeah thats how I unwrapped it in the end... you cant seem to get away from the seems being at risk of weird results though...
