So this has got me totally baffled...

The image here shows what is happening. I have a displacement texture on my object and all the edges are puling away from each other when I increase the amount of displacement... NB - this is happening on any object with edges - all the edges pull apart.

If it makes any difference - this is a baked texture map. It's the only way I could get the noise I want (as we are still waiting for v3 which has the ability top use noise).

I've checked the normals and I've checked to make sure all points are connected. Nothing seems to be wrong with my mesh...

Luke.

Dude, calm down a bit :)

OTOY working hard to provide us the best render engine out there, and bug reports are really taking seriously over here.
So there is no need to "scream" and open 3 topics one after the other about displacement - We all know it.
aoktar and others doing more then expected to assist people in the forum quickly as possible.

And displacement does works if you wrapping your UV's correctly.

Sorry mate but I really want this to work and I do not have the time to sit about and chillax...

I have mapped the UV correctly. If I had not, the image you see on the mesh in the image would look wrong. It was baked and works absolutely fine using Vray and C4D native displacement.

Octane seemed soo great until I hit displacement.... quite shocked considering how well made the rest of it is...

Both are cpu renderers. Are you comparing their else other features with Octane? i think yes. So i would try to help you, but you made me unmotivative with your three posts for same issue even with "BOLD" letters.

I'm sorry to offend anyone on here.

The 'bold' letters are not written to offend. They are there to highlight a point - to draw focus. I'm sorry you read into them as you have.

Please allow for a little frustration with this issue... I have quite a bit of experience in the industry and its very frustrating when something you know should work, doesn't. Why should GPU or CPU make any difference whether the displacement will work or not?

It would really help if scene files could be uploaded.... it makes such a difference when simple things can be adjusted, saved and uploaded again. Problems are solved so quickly.

Ok. No need to sorry, your intention is enough for me. I have to say that i don't write the Renderer. So i have nothing to improve that. Just i'm trying to solve the problems in plugin workflow for the users. Only Otoy guys can improve that. Also Displacement was a feature which took most time and had problems to be implemented. I think the reason was to provide the fastest method. So that's not doing a tesselation or attach the edges in polygons as i can understand. But this can be fixable by user efforts and with some care.

Thanks for getting back to me Aoktar,

Are you saying you cant help with this? Is there any way I can speak to anyone who can provide some answers.... this seems like it must be a common problem. I have tried other displacement on simple objects and the same thing happens - the polygons slide apart.

I'm really concerned about how to resolve this now as I have run out of options... Displacement is fundamental to my project and Octane is a fantastic look I paid a lot for it.

Is there anyway I can post a scene file to someone??

Cheers again,
L.

You can post here or to my PM. But i'm not expert for painting textures. So not sure that can be solved. Also take a look this video and model. Here is a sample scene with displacement.

Thanks Aoktar.... but it seems I cant post you a scene file it wont allow it... even in a PM.

I don't think this is about the textures its something more basic than that... something is either not checked or there is a bug.

Thanks for the link... will check that scene file of his... hopefully dissecting his setup will show me what I'm missing...

Cheers,
Luke.
