Ok, we just recently got the Stand Along version of Octane.
We use a variety of applications across our company and so we figured this was the best option. Most of our work starts in AutoCAD, but we also use 3DS MAX Sketch-up and a few other 3d applications.
When I have a project in CAD, we usually take it into MAX and then do renderings there. Now we're trying to then use MAX to created the OBJ that is then used by Octane.
My trouble is, when I bring my file into Octane, parts from different layers in CAD are clumped together in Octane, so when I assign a material, more items change than what I want.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I even took the time to assign materials in MAX hoping that would help, but the same issue occurred.
Any advice out there for someone new to Octane to make sure the different pieces I want a particular materials to be assigned to actually comes across into Octane?

Did some more playing around and still having this issue.
I did find it's not JUST an Octane issue. Something with exporting the OBJ file.
I'm working with a playground model, it has slides and roofs and posts etc, but I'm finding upon export some of the posts will have been merged with a slide and everything isn't broken out like it is in the max file.
I imported the OBJ file into another 3D application and it had the same mesh issues.
Is there a setting on the export I'm missing that would correct this that anyone is aware of?

Why not use the max plug-in and export to ORBX from there? The OBJ export option is very limiting, even abd would be better.ScoJoh wrote:Did some more playing around and still having this issue.

Ok, I added the Octane plug in to max... and I have to say I'm still utterly lost. I see no option to create or export an OrbX. I even read the Standalone and Max documentation and can find nothing at all.
