Problem 1: Crashing
I updated from 2.16 to 2.21 in hopes of a crashing problem going away. I'm still getting the same crashing during render... sometimes after 30 frames.. sometimes after 100. ( Bug Report attached)
Problem 2: Hot pixel blowout
The second problem is that my carefully calibrated lights and emissive lights are totally blown out and aliased/pixelated/noisy. I went through the same settings outlined in this thread (http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 12#p235512) but I can't seem to get it to look good. I even turned the power way way down and it's still not looking great.
Also there seems to be something that changed about the background of the environment. It looks like in the newer render where the hexagonal light overlaps the background, that the pixelation is greater. And I also noticed that the live viewer now shows a checkerboard pattern for a background indicating transparency instead of the octane sky environment which is just black.
Render Crashing and Blown out Pixels after update.

2.21 or 2.23.2? You should upgrade to 2.23.2, i can't help for older versions. What's you gpu, os, c4d version?
Also you should try to watch some tutorials. See "show alpha" option.

I did a quick render for 199 frames without any problem. Also why are you keeping kernel settings as default? Do you have some special log output? I see some strange functions at the crash point in bugreport.

1) Wow, 199 frames will take me daysaoktar wrote:I did a quick render for 199 frames without any problem. Also why are you keeping kernel settings as default? Do you have some special log output? I see some strange functions at the crash point in bugreport.
2) I was keeping kernel settings as default because I'm not very good with the settings in general, and I was getting the final result that worked. I've updted some of the settings like caustic blur and Gi clamp and coherent ratio per your settings.
3) I do not have special log output, that was just the zip file that cinema produced.
I'll render this overnight and see if I have another crash, thanks again!!!!
that's great. please watch latest tutorials. especially about render optimisations

Rendered 150 frames over night and had no problems, it looks like the update fixed it. I'll watch this Render Settings & Optimizations next... thanks again!!! ( https://vimeo.com/124066262 )aoktar wrote:that's great. please watch latest tutorials. especially about render optimisations
