Render GearVR Stereo Cubemap out of C4D plugin
Moderators: ChrisHekman, aoktar
What is the proper workflow to render this out? Can this even be done within the C4D plugin? Or do I need to export my scene to the standalone? If standalone, what's the process to output this format from the standalone? I need to start thinking about submitting my render to the Metaverse competition. Thanks!

I've managed to do it successfully, but I'm not an expert on the proper workflow. Setting the camera to panoramic cube map, and then enabling side by side in the stereoscopic tab gave me the 18 squares. Set the resolution according to the 14k specs in the challenge documentation.
If you're getting seams its most likely the camera imager or post processing. They don't seem to work well with cube maps right now.
Let's keep this discussion going with our findings

Where is that setting? I don't see that anywhere in the C4D plugin, unless you're talking about the standalone. Screenshots would be helpful! Thanks.capacitycorp wrote:Setting the camera to panoramic cube map, and then enabling side by side in the stereoscopic tab

Sorry I'm a bit busy right now, maybe someone else can do a more thorough tutorial, but basically if you select the octane camera tag (which you should have on your camera), change the camera type to panoramic (pulldown at the top), and under panoramic tab then change camera mode to cube map. Then under stereo tab change stereo output to side-by-side.
Huh... I don't see that at all. Did this get implemented in a recent update to the plugin? I'm on 2.22.2 RC3 still.

Please specify what you're not seeing... the camera tag? The camera type toggle? You won't see the panoramic tab until you change the camera type. It should be implemented in your version I believe.
I'm well aware of the panoramic tab, but all I see when i set the camera tag to panoramic are the panoramic controls, like horizontal and vertical FoV. There is a tab for stereoscopic, but nowhere do I see anything about setting the type of panorama. I'll update later tonight and see if maybe these new settings were added in a later version.

Yeah you might be right.. I'm not sure which version they added it.
Yup, looks like it was added in the 2.23 update. I see the settings you were talking about and everything makes sense now. Thanks for your help! Do you know how to set up targets for a navigable scene? I notice thats a feature you can add to your submission, but I'm not seeing anything about that in the plugin for C4D.

I haven't gotten a chance to mess with the navigation layers. Let me know if you figure anything out with that.
