It often happens that imported components are imported as surfaces due to problems in the step file or whatsoever.

Unfortunately these surfaces dont show up in the renderport. not even if transparency is disabled in inventor.

can this be fixed somehow?

Can you send me a sample scene where this happens pls?

Thanks

here we go!

there are 3 cubes! first one is a solid, second is a surface with transparency disabled, third one is a surface with transparency enabled.

when files have a problem importing they convert to surfaces. (about 70% of the files have problems importing..) sometimes they can be converted to solids in a few minutes by plugging the holes and copying the surfaces to a new solid. but most of the time there are so many problems that it takes hours so its easier to simply disable transparency and do as if it would have been a normal solid.

Hi - attached is a build which should include Surface Bodies. It was not straightforward to include these, so posting the release here for you to test and confirm all is OK.

2.23.2.10
- Compiled with Octane 2.23.2
- Added preliminary support for Surface Bodies which are not part of a Solid Body

its working great, except that it creates some odd shadows in the faces between the cubes. Moving the sun does not seem to change the shadow at all so i do not understand where that shadow comes from.. attached is a screenshot..

Those cubes are very small, so the faces are self-shadowing. To fix this, reduce the Kernel->Ray Epsilon. http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Inventor/?page_id=437
