Hello Guys,
This is not an advertising post I should say that upfront.
I just want to share with you my experience with an ipad used as a third monitor.
I installed the Duet Display app, where it's said that it's developed by a team of ex-Apple engineers.
If you have a retina display iPad. You have the choice of using its screen as 2048px or 1536px or even 1024px screen
I used my 3rd gen, 30pin, retina display ipad (it's a bit old now but it works that's good)
Where I find 2K pixels is a laggy and hard to click the small buttons. Where 1536 and 1024px is very speedy. With less lag.
Since octane viewport is already a bit laggy with big scene as in my video. So you won't find the difference for viewport performance.
App uses usb cable for display. No hassle with wifi bandwidth or lags. It works great. I doest sometimes crash. but maybe it's my systems fault.
I have 2 Titans for dedicated render and 1 680 for dual screen. With this app there is no need to allocate graphics card and it's memory or resources to a third display. If I can manage to add a ipad mount system to keep it above table that would be great.
Turning off the ipad or pressing home button accidentally does create a problem. When the app closes The octane viewport window returns to your main display.
If you're not too picky of these kind of things. It's a good way to add screen space especially for octane viewport.
Hope it works for you too..
You can watch how it works below. I used the ipad as 1024px scale in this video. Before I saw that I could increase the size.
Use ipad as Octane viewport

cool, I tried using some other solutions for ipad as monitor, something just didn't work - and it helps to check how the render will look on a mobile device
3dmax, zbrush, UE

Yeah I did that as well. But this one is one of the best if you're not that picky.acc24ex wrote:cool, I tried using some other solutions for ipad as monitor, something just didn't work - and it helps to check how the render will look on a mobile device
But the ipad brightness is super high with my spyder-software-calibrated monitor.
Actually my monitor is very old now. Maybe that is why..
But there was a huge difference

So I'm interested in this..
what version of Octane are you using there, and how do you set it up so that IPR opens on the iPad display?

Now that was cool! =) I wouldn't have my ipad gone if Iknew this work so good!
mm, as for ipad & colors =) they ussualy a very good out of the box. I've tried to calibrate (iPad2) using spider,
dig on this a bit more, I guess some might have a solution to use the color profile on other apps.
(at that mometn You can only on one app as far as I remember, but anyway, the difference wasn't that big..)
Now I gut curious, could You use ipad only, without any other screen? I mean, how that screen is powered?..
Few years ago I wanted to have a portable rig with ipad as screen..but You would need a lot of fideling..
to get it working once Your PC boots..I had to jump into VNC, power up separate app, then use that one..

thank you for the demo.
i purchased it and installed the soft on my pc(win8.1 3*gt780).
the installation asked me to reboot, and then : Black screen.
impossible to have my monitor active, even on the ipad.
impossible to use my pc !!
with a teamwiewer connection, i desinstalled it..
any idea of this problem ?
thank you

Phew. Glad I didn't install it. I'll wait to see if you get it sorted.
