Hey everybody. I was wondering if the ORBX Media Player app is only available for Samsung phones and GearVR. Im using Google cardboard and i have a Sony xperia phone and cant find the player on regular GooglePlay store. This all seems a bit mysterious to me. Cant find the things and clear Info... Any hints?

Our immediate focus is on Gear VR in order to support Oculus and the Metaverse competition. We do plan on bringing OBRX media playback to all platforms, including the web, PC VR, Morpheus, HoloLens, Mobile (Android), STB (AndroidTV, possibly Tizen/WebOS) and more. We'll post details when we are further along with each of these efforts.

thanks for the super quick answer!
can you give any advice on any other android app, that would let me test my panos in google cardboard? i.e. in spherical mapping and single pictures each for left and right or side by side or any other? i would need some kind of VR-feedback to take part in the competition... there are plenty pano-shere viewers but no VR-stereoscopic ones...

It's being worked on, but after Android. There isn't a really good VR solution for iOS at the moment. For non-VR viewing, Safari might work pretty well now that is has WebGL support.

Any news on the releasedate of the ORBX Media Player for VR Viewing on the PC?
I would love to dive into generating VR content for the Rift / Vive both with Octane but also with Photography as Paul showed in the OTOY office example at FMX in Stuttgart!
Any infos on releasing the tools for VR Lightfields viewed on the Rift (both for CGI and Photography) ?

I have made a 360 Stereo Cubemap viewer for Android works with the 12 panel long cubic "Carmack" format used in the competition.
It has lens warp control and so is compatible with all headsets.

You can download the competition stereo cubemaps in the forums (they are very large) and move them to your sdcard for viewing.
The viewer also contains links to the competition stereo cubemaps and can load them directly.

It can also be used to experience the Metaverse Gallery.

Glad you like it.
Thanks for the report, I found a bug with Lollipop: It does not allow the app to adjust brightness settings.
Users must now adjust brightness manually. The app used to darken for VR mode and brighten for anaglyph mode.

Also note that the app name has changed to "Holodeck".

This bug and others are fixed in Holodeck 1.2
