Hi
Im new to Octane but been using 3ds max for 20 yrs. I signed up for the free 3 month trial but I can' t seem to download the Max plugin for Octane. I would really like to use Max for the competition but just wondering if thats possible.

Thanks

It's possible with a full commercial licence to OctaneRender+3DS Max. At the moment we are only able to offer free plug-ins OVR plug-ins for Poser and Blender. You may be able to export an alembic file from MAX to OVR, set up the lighting and materials in OVR, and then render the scene from there.

Let us know if this is a blocking issue.

I can't seem to get Octane to see anything from MAX. It would be nice to use MAX instead of blender. Not having the plug in is certainly a blocker on my end.

Ahh Ok.. not blocking but just using brain cycles that could be redirected to more awesome sauce on the final output. I'm really excited about this project. I feel like I finally have the medium I've been waiting for my whole life. I've been drawing and painting forever but always wanted to be "in" my paintings. If we could hook up hotspots and audio we could do some amazing stuff with story.

cheers.

If you can afford it then just buy the full version, it's well worth it. I'm working on a full gallery to display my panoramic photography. Also working on some scenes to showcase my companies products. It really is an amazing experience seeing them rendered in a full stereoscopic world.

Can't wait for the scripting engine to be exposed so we can build some truly awesome worlds :)

agree that it's well worth, but even using provided OctaneVR version is pretty useful, personally standalone fit me even better, 'cos I can model in chosen app & render in the background with StandAlone, without even noticeing (if You have separate GPU for that You will not feel a thing).

The disatvantage is that You have to export from Max, & import to Standalone, but the advange overweights..-let's say if Max crashes in modeling on tweaking something, Your rendering is still going. For some who like to mess with max, that migh be better choise.

pluss that cloud thing. You might want to have clean ready to rende .ORBX file to push it out & do the calculation if You have too little of GPU power in Your rig. I don't know what's the case with 3ds max (as I haven't touce it in a while), but at least in C4D it seems Guys can't export cameras out..

As You see there are some benefits keeping things in Standalone =) especialy for stills..

So just to be clear. If we get the max Octane license we don't need a standalone license to render vr correct? Man the iteration process would be so much faster if I could just stay in Max.
Any thought of releasing the max plugin just for the contest? if I win even 3rd place I'll buy it. :) .

This is great!..but.. how do I transfer the licence? I activated the standalone ver but the code doesn't work for the Max ver. I submitted a helpdesk ticket already. Can I do something else?

thanks

You need to apply for 3ds Max plugin subscription license in your user-area.
