Vs. 3 looks interesting.

According to Otoy's site, the standalone comes in Q3. Can we expect the Blender plug-in in 2015?

Will reflection/illuminating/shadow-controls per layer/object work in Blender?

Also, Octane on CPU - does that mean that we can use CPUs and GPUs simultaneously?

I'm afraid you're right. :(

I don't get it, though. Blender would be perfect, in my opinion, if it came with a decent undo-function and a nice render engine.

With Octane, you've got the render...

In the beginning, there was a large amount of Blender users here. Then it took a long time to get the Blender plugin and Cycles became a good engine. I think a lot of people just use cycles now. Personally, I like Octane more.

Yeah, I have to say I just don't understand how anybody can even consider Cycles. I only made my final decision to use Blender when I realized I could use another renderer.

But Blender itself... wow!

Again, minus the undo-function.

I agree! Octane makes Blender suitable for simple professional uses - with Cycles, I find the workflow too complicated and time consuming. Cycles is great for artists who don’t have to meet tight deadlines (or whose clients don't require high quality).
The delayed plugin updates are of course a bit frustrating, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for it being continued at all... It seems that JimStar got recently involved in 3DSMax plugin development as well (hope this is temporary)… Maybe this is the right moment to start learning some alternative software – just in case if a quick switch was needed? I’m looking more and more at C4D + Corona combo…

I used Octane when it was beta,
then a couple of years it was Cycles and finally a few weeks ago
I upgraded to octane 2 + Blender plugin.
I think Octane is much more mature than Cycles and i guess it is twice more faster ...
Difference is in look, I do know why, but Octane render is always more beautiful than Cycles ...

But Cycles version is always fresh while waiting for new Blender plugin is very slow ...
2.74 is out a long time ... impossibility export scenes to standalone is frustrating ...
Sorry my English.

Let's hope for 2.74 soon.

It's an incredibly important update.

Cycles is in the beginning ... we'll see where it leads. Its node system is interesting, because it has nodes, that can access blnder interna. For instance, you can change a material depending on a particles rotation :) These things make it versatile.
