This is being experimented with today through OctaneVR, and the OVR Blender and Poser plug-ins.

Currently the monthly price is free throughout the duration of the Metaverse contest. We may keep it free, migrate users to OR or charge a monthly subscription after it ends. We are waiting to see how the next 90 days turn out before making a decision.

A free or low monthly price is meant to help users on any budget to get started with Octane, and also leverage orc.otoy.com for big renders, rather than investing in local GPUs up front.

Also, we are exploring options where we offer Octane (and supported 3rd party apps) entirely from the cloud (e.g. the OctaneVR demo above) for those interested in such an option.

The potential for Octane to run entirely in X.IO (I'm assuming that's what's going on) is a really exciting proposition.

When you say "and supported 3rd party apps"– do you mean our 3D programs?

If I'm able to run Cinema4D and the Octane plug-in entirely from the cloud... that would be huge. Massive. It would change everything.

No more hand-wringing about CUDA and OpenCL, or Mac and PC, or multi-GPU systems and drivers. I'm tired of spec-ing out a new system. I just want to make stuff.

Make it happen!
