From my best guess it looks like the license config file is not being read correctly? Should it have ******* for the username too? Or maybe even the actual username. This is probably the issue.....

Anyone else using LWSN and Octane?

Attached you have a sample octane_node.cfg file. You only need to replace the username and password words with your license data, for example:

"83010231"
"wiu23uidiu234"
1
4
300

I hope this help.

Does the username pass need to be in the quotes? Maybe that's the problem?

Yes. They need to be in the quotes.

It appears the username and pass must be within the quotes...as this setup works. Or will work, I CANT ACTIVATE MY LICENSE FOR ANOTHER 38 MIN. Seriously....Terribly restrictive and redundant....if we must have an internet connection to talk to octane servers, why then also require a wait period. They can only have one machine active at any one time anyway....let the artists actually USE THE SOFTWARE!!!!

You can deactivate the license in one system and activate it in other one without wait time, but you can only make this operation (deactivate/activate) once in one hour, AFAIK.

Sorry for the harsh comments on this thread...it's been very frustrating to get this to all work as I expected (right or wrong expectations) I was getting mixed input from Support team at Otoy and Juan was very helpful in trying to straighten things out.

I want to say that I am now network rendering as I would expect to be able to do (yay). For others let me lay out a few things they should know....

1. A Stand alone + LW plugin license is needed for each MACHINE they want to render with.
2. A octane_node.cfg file is needed at the root of the C:\ drive for each render node. The username and password need to be in parenthesis. (this is crucial)
3. Each of these render nodes needs an activated OctaneLive account.
4. If you use LW and want to use LWSN network rendering ON THE SAME MACHINE, but not at the same time, there is no additional license needed. Nor do you have to DEACTIVATE the plugin license before starting a LWSN network render on THIS SAME MACHINE.
5. In this one machine that has a standalone and plugin license you are limited to 12 GPUS...whether LWSN is doing the rendering or LW native.
6. Butterfly Net Render Controller works perfectly (as far as I can tell at this point) with Octane. There is nothing to configure or additional scripts to prepare. Just have a working LW config in BNR that has the plugin files in the lwext file and your good. Each node as mentioned above will need a full combo license and a octane_node.cfg in the root drive with appropriate username and password for OctaneLive account.

I think that is most of what I have learned...I have no hair left and a little egg on my face. But I am glad to tell others this information.

Thank you Juan for your patience and help through this. I was mis understanding several things or they were not described accurately but it's all good now!

I am glad that it is working now :)

Only a little correction: The username and password need to be in quotes, not in parentheses ;)
