hi,

That's a nice product,

the question is whether it fit Your needs. It was designed for forious workloads where not only render performance, but data transfer matters..

I'm pretty sure it should work with OctaneRender too, the question how much of a value it deliver as OctaneRender is limited to 12GPU & this was built to scale (to be put in racks & use in paralell for nearly realtime =)

as it's equiped with Quadro cards I start to question from very beginning th value of it - as those perform not faster than TitanX but cost more - Yeah, in case of having multiple of those machines Quadros might make sense, but if You buying one node..-I believe DIY route in a server with 12GB TitanX cards will give You way better value =)

it's insane to see technological leaps - as Guys in on GPU Garage talked - it will come a day when we will not have rendering as such - everything will be done in real time =) that will change quite some things as some Guys will be forced out of market & only those who deliver "more than images/videos", but also compeling story, emotion will be left in the market =) word disruptive technologies do fit here =)

still looking for some power? =)

I agree. Exceeding 12 GPUs as applied to rendering a single frame is banned by Octane's current license [ per this - "You agree that you may use the software supplied on licensed workstations for your own purposes (non–exclusive license). A maximum of 12 GPU's may be used. You will not attempt to circumvent the physical GPU or single machine license limit, including obfuscating or impairment of the direct communication between Octane and the physical GPUs, virtualization, shimming, custom BIOS etc." - here: https://render.otoy.com/shop/maya_plugin.php ]. The Quadro comparable to the Titan X is the Quadro 6000M, which cost about $5K each [ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product ]; 8x$5K = $40K, excluding the cost of the VGA Appliance itself. For less than a quarter of the final price of an 8 Quadro 6000M GPU VCA Appliance, I'd prefer to buy another Tyan Server [ http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=TS-B75F7V6 ] and 8 Titan Xs or buy four Tyan Servers and 32 Titan Xs for 4 times the rendering performance of an 8 Quadro 6000M GPU VCA Appliance at nearly the same total price [ http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia ... 26394.html ]. Using Octane, no more than 12 of those 32 GPUs could be rendering the same frame, but each group of 12 GPUs could be rendering different frames.
Because I have 180+ GPU processers in 16 tweaked/multiOS systems - Character limit prevents detailed stats.

exactly Terry have put things in perspective =) value wise VCA does not make any sense for Octane User - anything custom or build from ground up will give You better outcome (for less=)

"Octane on workstation" is as fast as "iray on 1 VCA" anyway.......... :-)

Nvidia Pro cards are too expensive for rendering. That setup in the videos had to be upwards of 20k.

I figured you could build a water-cooled, rack-mounted, 8x Titan X render node for around $15K+. So for about the same price as a VCA, you could potentially build a 24 GPU render farm. And they'd be water cooled, so each Titan X would run much cooler/faster than its Quadro equivalent.
