Hi folks,

I'm running Octane on my Windows machine both stand alone and Octane for Maya 2015. Been loving this software ever since I downloaded it. My question is: I have a MacPro (the silver box, not the trashcan) that is sitting around not doing much and I'm trying to figure out the most sensible way to utilize it so that I can render in Octane faster. Clearly I'll need to get one or more CUDA graphics cards for the Mac (suggestions welcome). Ideally I would like to not have to install Maya 2015 on this Mac, but I would be happy to get an additional Octane license for it. Is it possible to simply render over my network using the Mac as additional GPU support or would I need to install Octane stand-alone on this machine and export/load my Maya scenes onto the Mac and do a batch render on that machine? What is the most sensible/economical way to add a second machine as an Octane render node?

You shouldn't need an additional seat of Maya. The Octane plugin compiles the scene (I believe in an ORBX format) and will send that data to any compatible GPU registered on your network. Just need the additional Octane license on the Mac.

As for the Mac Pro card, both the GTX 970 and 980 should run without additional power requirements, using the two 6-pin power ports there on the logic board. You could run multiple cards (or higher powered cards), but it would require an external PSU.

Someone's reading someone else's mind - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread. ... st20865155 . Whose who or what someone are you or am I? I don't yet know the answer, but I too am searching for it.

P.S. Read your own mind. The human mind is a thing of great beauty; but we have to use it or we'll lose it. If you've never seen the following movie or last saw it so long ago that you don't quite remember the movie in detail, grab " A Beautiful Mind," starring Russell Crowe and set down, relax, watch the movie and think about how you can apply its lessons to all things about which you wonder.

Because I have 180+ GPU processers in 16 tweaked/multiOS systems - Character limit prevents detailed stats.

Hi, I want to thank the user Riggles for the excellent response to my question. I bought a GTX 980 in the Mac as well as an additional license of Octane Standalone. I was able to get it up and running without any issues and I've successfully loaded some scenes into Octane. So it seems to be working very well. However I'm having a small problem installing the Deamon so that I can render on the network. Each time I run the installer I get the following message, wondering if its looking for a directory that doesn't exist or if its a permissions thing. This is on my Mac OS X 10.10. Graphics card and Octane stand alone do not seem to have any issues other than this:

"Creating temporary launch script ...

Creating temporary launch agent ...

Copying bundle into /Applications and launch agent into /Library/LaunchAgents ...

32:177: execution error: Terminal got an error: cp: /Applications/.OctaneRender Daemon *.app: No such file or directory (1)

Installation failed due to:
Could not install daemon and launch agent."

I chose the default settings for port and GPU.
