Hello,
i know this topic isn't new but I have to respond again.

Is it possible to optimize the "octane edge rounding"? I get often complex files that haven't rounded edges.
To correct the edges from the mesh with a bevel tool takes a long time. A shading solution is more convenient.

The result of the "modo render" is good but octane must be better.

Here are examples:
(in modo i used "load cage" and "set vertex normals")

Have you adjusted rayepsilon at all?

This is a scale issue in Octane. I have addressed this before but got poor support.

Yup.

This is a feature that really needs attention big time. I am sure there are plenty of people in both VFX and product vis worlds that work with CAD.... and we all know you can't go in beveling stuff... well you can but have fun remodeling heavy CAD...

It shouldn't have even been released, even their material ball shows the edges having problems it was almost like a hey we have rounded edges now! Check one more off the list, without even caring if it worked worth a dang.

This rounded edge feature is unusable in octane. As Seth mentioned, even the octane material ball displays errors.

I've heard it's difficult to do on the GPU, but I hope the devs will look into it again and improve it in the future.

Beating a dead cat with a stick... this has been raised several times with no clear response. I love adding 0.25mm radii to edges manually!

I agree proper working rounded edges and with custom amounts in units would be very nice.

Why is it technically not possible with a "gpu renderer"? Whats the technichal background?

The "Dirt Texture" has a almost good "Edge recognition" but the shading does not look round.
Is it possible to edit the edge shading like the "Dirt Texture"?
