They may not do enough to get the plugin out the door but they are responsible for its development. If, as you claim, they are not responsible why did OTOY respond to my email, chase up t_3 and get a v2 beta released within a month? Denying that OTOY has any responsibility lets them off the hook and that's not very helpful to us.larsmidnatt wrote:In very informal, casual, hands-off "its 3rd party" kind of way.Spectralis wrote: They do take responsibility for plugin development.
I've heard the whole "step in at any time" bit many times but it is clear to see what's really going on. They take about as much responsibility as any third party would when you ask them about their partner. Sure Otoy is the one who processed our payments and they issue licenses but they aren't responsible for much beyond that(and ya know talking to devs and stuff).
If they really where taking responsiblity (and not just feigning it all for good laughs), they would have a developer working on the plugin. Ya know, first party. I've visited the official plugin forums in the past and its a totally different world there...
You can convince me otoy is responsible for the plugin development when they step in and give us first party treatment
But ya know, if Otoy was really responsible for the OcDS plugin, it would probably have half the features based on their offical plugins. Responsibility is a big word. Can't take credit where it isn't due.

If only the customers would stop moaning then all would be well! The problem with passing the buck like this is that in every other plugin forum the devs actively engage with their customers. They respond to their problems with the latest beta release and then try to fix these problems so that the next release doesn't have them any longer. This kind of interaction is what we're asking for not what you facetiously call "chat". t_3 if you want to characterise our frustrations as simply impatient irrelevance then no wonder you have no conception about customer support.

Something like the "notes" section in the first post of the last update, on a regular schedule. Even once a month would be nice. Who are these people that know, beta testers?t_3 wrote:i'm just now rendering a test animation with network render thingie.gaazsi wrote:nice news, you also took the network render thingie on the list?
what would you expect from a little update? beta tester is problematic as Tugpsx mentioned, and afair we had that already. somebody that knew by sure did post sthg. like "i know he's working..." and it wasn't good: "but why is he not showing", "why we don't get a schedule" "where is the update" "don't you have some milestones set"... from my pov there is always somebody that isn't satisfied until there is a dl-link. and as we all know, it is always too much time until the next update is ready. thus i need to pass on it. if you like to know if i'm active, you can check my profile. a login at least every other day since i'm of course also active in the dev forum. this here is still mostly a user forum, support is going via pm/email/bug-report, and apart from that, if not otherwise stated, i'm working on the plugin, believe it or not...Elele wrote:Why don't you have one of the beta tester post a little update once in a while.
Nobody here is asking to be facebook buddies, just a sign that the plugin is still being worked on.
BTW, how come we don't have access to the latest beta? Isn't that what we paid for?

I never said Otoy had no responsibility, read what I said.Spectralis wrote: They may not do enough to get the plugin out the door but they are responsible for its development. Otoy is responsible for fostering a community for plugin developers, but they are not literally responsible for each plugin. Ultimately this plugin is t_3 child. That is the reality of it all. Again Otoy took our money, so yes they will talk to developers for us

Responsibility goes both ways, you get credit and blame. You can credit t_3 for creating such an ambitious pluging for daz studio, and you can blame him for the delays. You want to blame Otoy for the delays, but would you also give them credit for the ambitious plugin that is pretty much the best or second best one available(feature wise)? I looked at a lot of the offical otoy plugin features and they were often fairly basic compared to the Daz integration.
You can't take responsibility for things you don't do.

You're fudging the issue. OTOY did take responsibility, as they should do, and this resulted in renewed communication from t_3 and a v2 beta being released. They've proved they can do it when pressed so why argue otherwise?larsmidnatt wrote:I never said Otoy had no responsibility, read what I said.Spectralis wrote: They may not do enough to get the plugin out the door but they are responsible for its development. the last five 2.x versions were released when barely tested, of course because of everyone was "eagerly" waiting. this one receives real-world testing from me (one full test-cycle last around a week btw), and a couple others, to assure the bug-count is significantly reduced (since not only fixing did happen, but change from octane 2.1 to 2.2 and adding other new stuff). and then it is released, still as a (probably last) beta - there is nothing uncommon to that. i'm not going to do nightly builds (what is what you are aiming at). since it would double the time to do additional fixes for problems i.e. when something with saved data goes wrong.Elele wrote:BTW, how come we don't have access to the latest beta? maybe? is the last visited date in my users stats not showing up?Elele wrote:He may not be aware that we can't see when he last was active on the forums.

you are perfectly right. even a few nbr. of very VOCAL people can sometimes force things to happen, that should better not happen this way. but i wouldn't bet on it to work always - even things we come to love need to end some time...Spectralis wrote:OTOY did take responsibility, as they should do, and this resulted in renewed communication from t_3 and a v2 beta being released. If you communicated with us without leaving it for months then these frustrations wouldn't build up. We don't want "chat" but solutions to the very real problems we're faced with without regular beta updates. Many people here go out of their way to help new and not so new customers in a very professional way so the idea that we want communication just for the sake of it doesn't apply here.t_3 wrote:you are perfectly right. even a few nbr. of very VOCAL people can sometimes force things to happen, that should better not happen this way. but i wouldn't bet on it to work always - even things we come to love need to end some time...Spectralis wrote:OTOY did take responsibility, as they should do, and this resulted in renewed communication from t_3 and a v2 beta being released.
