Well, this seems like a good time as any.
I have a solution for hair. I've had it for a while.
Been developing my own shaders for quite some time now
And am about ready to release them into public
Keep an eye out, you'll see them soon

Did you see what Darkseal said? "Y u so old poser...."Squirtle wrote:The more I think about it, the more I wonder what this spells for Octane Render's future, and not just the Octane DS plugin. I mean, whether I was already a DAZ user or not, if there is a free unbiased renderer that works this well and fast, what does Octane Standalone offer in comparison? Anyone can import models from other 3D software into DAZ to render them for free now, so in just using DAZ as an unbiased GPU based renderer of projects from other software... it's like working with Octane Standalone but with handy gizmos to move lights around, and other GUI amenities.
Assuming that future products bought from DAZ will come with shaders optimized for Iray, I'm going to be spending a lot less time screwing around with materials and more time simply making art. I'm fantasizing now about a Stonemason Urban Sprawl 3 ready to render in Iray out of the box...
I'm sure after more use, I'll bump into some unforseen limitations of the new DAZ, but for now I feel like I woke up in the damn future.
Octane threw down the glove on GPU based rendering and made a splash. Stuff like this was bound to be coming. Perhaps that is why Otoy went after so many plugins?
In the future I see way way more rendering applications going GPU or at least getting better optimized.
Lux is now looking pretty washed up. They have squandered 1 generation of development on a rewrite to side step its GPL legal restrictions. So... not faster for a while yet (and the scuttle butt is that their GPU stuff is way lagging). The Reality forum is pensively waiting...
Anyways, I'm still a solid Octane fan, and I have my doubts about how long till Daz has iRay working well. The track record here is ... 6 months to 1 year. How do you add a Fall Off shader? Oh wait, that's not there, next week, honest. On the other hand 99% of what we do in rendering doesn't need an advanced shader.
The other question here is whether Daz will compete with many of the advanced features on Octane. I'm not sure it will. Daz is kinda cobbled together with a lot of features, none of which are outstanding, except maybe the characters.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that daz will make regular updates. To the render engine because let's face it, at the moment as it stands, it's one hell of a killer application because it's free.
Exactly. They will rerelease all content under the new iray. Render engine (and make themselves more money by doing so)
I'm quite surprised otoy that one of the devs has jumped in to say anything about the situation,
I'm pretty sure as it stands at the moment the daz plug-in (is pretty much dead in the water) . Again, the UNless an octane. DEV would like to tell me otherwise.
But saying that if have done this what about Smith Micro's? What's stopping them from doing exactly the same. I would say nothing
And what about Carrara, I'm sure that is going to get an upgrade very soon as well. That'll be another plug-in that will be killed

We were given a heads up by NVIDIA about this and similar GTC announcements last week. Iray has been around for a while, and this is an obvious path for NVIDIA to pursue. OTOY's position is that it is a win for the industry in general to have unbiased GPU rendering replace legacy solutions. It is on each of us in this space to differentiate our offerings from one another. We will continue to do that with what we're showing at GTC.
Whoa there buddy. Noel mentioned that be submitted updated files to daz, so now it is a matter of daz making the update available.Hydra wrote:No... No you're not. You stated you were working on the SSS Hair shaders which still don't work.TRRazor wrote:I was also curious about this as the elephant in the room now is - in what respect will OctaneRender be inferior/superior to iRay and Octane use an almost 100% similar approach to rendering things in the GPU.
Out-of-core-rendering is supported as well.
We're already working on a dedicated shader solution for iRay
I got a mountain of cash here, but not a dime more for you. Your s**t doesn't work.
found this not sure what it does click it nothing happens
