Uh-oh! OTOY lets that happen? They had 2 years (or more) to hone their software/plug-in. Excusable?

daz 4.8 pro is in beta:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/53671/
the main new feature being nvidia Iray
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia-iray.html
now i wonder how it will perform in daz but iray seem good enough to make me regret buying octane's licence.
can anyone with practice on Iray tell us of the pros & cons of Iray vs Octane ?

Very interesting development, however i'm not going to jump to quickly. First some impression how the quality and integration of the iray renders etc is
.
I really like octane (especially the DS integration compared to the Poser version (also own the Poser version). I do hope this is a wake up call for OTOY to step up in regard to the DS version and take there customers more serious, instead of only silence. And not that there existing customers made a large investement in to a product that will even get less support than it has now.
In other words OTOY, take up this challange and not dump the DS integration....

I'm seeing pro/con between two. But then, they're both beta. We'll see how things unfold once they get out of beta.
So far, I'm enjoying Iray's results. Kinda slow but then it loads the materials correctly.. Maybe that's why it's affecting the render time.
Another one important part I like about Iray, FINALLY spotlights with barn doors so it can be either unbiased or biased.

Definitly some very good news for all OCDS Users.
We need to see how good it as at least but there is now an option and light and the end of this tunnel here.

The way of setting up materials is totally different... *sigh*kibbycabbit wrote:I'm seeing pro/con between two. But then, they're both beta. We'll see how things unfold once they get out of beta.

The material setup is different, yes.
Also, my results all look like Octane's "Daylight kernel", in that I can't seem to get any good SSS going.
It could be just me, but everything coming out of iray looks kind of flat.
