Maybe this has already been discussed somewhere....If so, pardon the repetition.

I love the preset Response Curves but I was surprised to find no option for creating our own. Essentially we're just messing with the gamma curve similar to PS' Curves tool.

Would be awesome to have not only a custom curves option for RGB, but to have one for R, G, and B individually as well.

personnaly I like the current system a lot and having the possibility to choose between so many response curves is great. It's not only gamma, it's also color grading which is even better imho.
If you want more control , choosing a linear curve output and a float format like .exr should do the trick in post. (when we get more output format of course)

distribution types nodes will appear in the near future, and will probably be attacheable to the camera response curve too.
the primary use of them is for custom spectra.

On a similar note will there be a custom white balance option appearing in the near future? I find this option in other apps really useful for warming images, I know it can be done in post but it looks like Octane has the potential to be a powerful post editor too in 32bit colour space. Will custom curves give us the ability to clamp some of the higher values whilst lightinging the shaddows etc like colour mapping?

Technically, I think that color grading is achieved by modulating the three individual R,G, and B gamma curves. I agree totally that this isn't about just the overall gamma, but also about color-grading, which is why it would nice to have 4-way control over the master, red, green, and blue channels.

The reason I ask all this is because I really love how Octane gives you these photographic controls over the final look of your image. Very nearly like developing a photo, and very similar to some of the tools Lightroom and Aperture offer, but with a pristine source file. I'm just excited to see that and wonder if there's a way to make it even better.

Either way, great work by the team that makes this! You guys rock!
