I have been hearing all about the tidbits that DirectX 12 is going to bring the gaming world for a while now. Today I managed to see splattered everywhere is the impact that DirectX 12 is going have on VRAM limitations. DirectX 12 will take for example two GPU's consisting of 2GB's of memory each and pool them together into essentially a single GPU with a total of 4GB's of memory.

Would this essentially carry over to octane render? If so would it have any benefits other than being able to render more resource intensive scenes and a questionable increase in performance?

I have a single GTX 690 and have been dreading the whole memory situation since I started to educate myself on how to use Octane render. News like this gives me a lot of hope for the future of my GTX 690 and might make it more viable to use dual GPU cards in my rig in the future (only have enough space to fit 2 GPU's sadly). Don't be alarmed I am not considering getting another GTX 690 one is enough to make my room extremely hot in the winter.

I remember reading from somewhere that Otoys .orbx or its variant could replace directx completely.

I could of sworn I saw somewhere that DirectX was somehow involved with Octane render in some fashion. From a quick search I can find a job listing at Otoy looking for people experienced in programming with 3D toolkits such as OpenGL, DirectX and CUDA / OpenCL. Maybe there is currently some DirectX integration or maybe it's possible that there will be some future integration. All in all I guess my question was being unintentionally hypothetically based if Octane does not use DirectX at all.

It would be hella nice to share the vram (I would have 30gig in my system!!) but I bet its a ball ache to implement even if oct was DX based, who knows though? Maybe a dev could chime in ?

Remember that DirectX is only for Windows (And Xbox 360/Xbox One) and Octane is multiplatform (Windows, Mac, Linux). I doubt the devs would want to work on entirely different versions of Octane.
