Hey =} Here's a model I've been working off and on after I ordered my new computer a couple weeks ago; wanted to make something sci-fi hard-surface. I'm brainstorming on the proportions for the rest of the suit. Need to model arms, rest of torso, legs..Octane is amazing. It actually makes me eager to render, such an amazing tool. The images were originally in widescreen but I cropped them so they don't take up too much space. Before I began the model I didn't know exactly what I was making but then I happened to stumble across some stuff about megastructures and the like. I figured the concept I already was imagining would fit in nicely. This droid/mecha is a piece of advanced alien technology sent to explore other megastructures throughout the universe. It has recently stumbled across a class B Matrioshka brain mega structure in the Triangulum Galaxy (M33 , NGC598), and will be infiltrating it to investigate the near-infinite amounts of information the supercomputer has, among many other things. It's abilities include the technology to phase through space-time, cross dimensions above the perceivable 3 spatial and time, displace energy and matter, and others. I wrote a long description of the background of it also, but I'll leave you to the renders for now.

Nice work. Great idea describing the intent of the droid and the story around its existance. Looking forward to it's completion.

Wow it is very detailed.

Thanks tug. =] Update in the OP. Didn't work on it as much this past week cause allergies keepin me dowwwn. I finished most of the torso area, and will be finishing the rest within the next couple weeks (hopefully). Then I might make a small environment/studio setup for him and work more on the rendering. Hope you guys like, peace.

Thanks Radiance. :) I actually did have pathtracing enabled in the kernel, but it doesn't seem that obvious. Then again right now the model is simply floating in free space with no surrounding surfaces. Maybe I need to fool around with some settings, make some more complex material setups or something. I also want to uvmap/texture to break up the specularity/roughness of the model but that will take an extra step of time. If you have any input on that let me know.

Updated the first post. I really should of had the model finished by now, I just have bad concentration sometimes when it comes to a single piece, and tend to work on other things before coming back around. Anyway, I need to finish the legs/feet, and then the arms. When I render in Octane, it seems the mesh has some artifacts or something, not sure why that's happening. =/ Hope you're liking the concept and all. Peace and love

you should add an edgesplit modifier to make sure you don't smooth too large angles (if you're using blender, which if you don't you should try to figure out an alternative)

Thanks Radiance. Little update, I decided to change the proportions around a bit to give a more elongated form. Added a couple things as well. I really need to work on the legs+arms. I want to do some extra refining in between also.

Update. This week has been hectic with a lot of cousins and friends being up in Maine for my sisters wedding. Since it's calmed down I worked some on this guy. Need to finish the legs still, and few other things, then perhaps work on a BG. Tonight I had a very tough time getting Octane to work. Atm I can only use 1 card for rendering, and I don't even think the second card is being used since I'm lagging bad. I installed the new display drivers but that seems to have made it worse. When I run driver sweeper do I have to wipe out the Physx ones too? When I wake up I'll try to do another clean install.
