Hi otoy, I was going to buy the Sketchup plugin, but now I see it has only about 50% of functionality the standalone? I thought I would export to standalone for cameras batch rendering, now I see its just a mess inside? Please make somehow the way to render animation frames or camera batch inside the plugin. And what about the coherent mode, it has no one and it means the plugin is slower compare to standalone?

We'll provide an update on SU plug-in roadmap this week.

Like last year, things can get quiet on the forums when the devs are heads down in preparation for GTC.

Thank you mate.
cheers

To let you know the fact:

Last week I have a interior model prepared by my colleague and we need to prepare renders with half day timeframe.

I turned to use Shaderlight (lower quality) though I have a SU Octane license because I don't have time with Octane for material tweaking and double side material issues.

There's less meaning in talking "fattest" with OTOY, when we are considering workflow also.

Hello, the latest OR for SU doesn't work very well....
I use the 2015 SU With the latest version of the plugin and this is what happens, in the beginning it seams that it's working ok but as the project is getting bigger and with more materials applied, the view port dose not show anything... And the material editor doesn't show any materials..... I'm forced to save the file on 2014 version and use the old plugin....
I hope this issue will be addressed... Thanks

I was unaware there were problems! For a beta, this plugin functions better than many of the other full-featured competition. Good on Fuzzy to get the new gig, I just hope steam picks up for us too. The proxy system out of SU can solve a lot of the really messy node setup when imported to the Octane standalone. :ugeek:

Very true.

For now If we could have the Octane 2.20 would be great.

cheers

Just to mention some issues
crashes very often in SU2015 (more stable in SU2014), mostly when you are modeling at the same time you have the live viewer running.
Some times the update of the material made on the model is not updated to the live viewer.
Some times when i hide or un-hide parts or components it is not updated in the live viewer.
Strange rendering happen (black surfaces) when I try to use the advance camera.
Some times a normal color assigned by the native SU material manage will turn into a octane material with a texture, and octane will force a texture in to the su material.
Sure there is others as well... so there are stuff for OTOY to fix, to really be able to sell this product for real money.
And now it is weekend of this week and still no update / road map for Sketchup from OTOY as promised.

Nice weekend....................

Hi all.

The questions was raised by clausgs but I reply to everyone concerned.

Can some one please explain to all us octane / SU users what is going on???

As you might notice there is quite a bit of stuff is happening in OTOY and we are working on new exciting products to announce this year.
Unfortunately, this also means that prioritizing is very tricky last couple months, that's why SketchUp plugin development slowed down a lot.
We apologize for that and promise to resolve the issue soon.

The plan for the future development

Since we are still very tight on resources planning has to be done carefully.
I'll create a thread with a new roadmap discussion to provide more value in a short time frame.

As a crisis-management resolution I would focus on fixing critical bugs like SU2015 crashes, adding Octane 2.21 features and improving export to Standalone to make sure you guys can get work done while we figure out how we can give some tender love to the SU plugin.

Expect to see fresh builds soon.

Yours,
Fuzzy

Great to hear from you, Fuzzy.

I think there are some core resource issues that Otoy needs to adress. I appreciate that you're able to give the plugin a bit of attention again but we really need some consistency in the development. It hardly helps if you release a version and then you're unavailable for 3 months - will this happen again in 3 months time?

I care about this because we've pushed SU hard with an industrial product recently and badly need the Octane plugin for SU 2015. We're struggling with 2014 / 32 bit at this point.

It would be great to see the 2015 stability & material issues addressed. I also still get the bug in 2014 that messes up the scale of LiveDB material (specifically Carbon fibre V2), which is a royal pain.

Can't wait to see what you guys have been grafting on for GTC!

Best,
Seeker

Hi Seeker,

Yeah we agree on the resource issue and looking for a solution to that now.
Meanwhile I'll concentrate on SU2015 only since it's the only promising version of SketchUp
