Hello,

just a simple question about render layers (objects layers):
for example, this morning i had to re-render a simple object
in a scene, in the back of my principal objects.
I've just set up render layers to isolate it, and launch the render.
The problem is that the render of each single frame of this tiny
object takes as long as the complete frame, with all the objcts active.
Is there a way to speed up things? for the moment, i solve this with a
render region and masks but was wondering how to keep the power of this objects layering
system without the loss of the rendering speed...
Thanks a lot

Hi Oliv,

You can use the visibility only option of the render layer node. This option was introduced in version 2.21. Using this option means that everything on the non-active layers is ignored. That should speed things up a bit. A limitation is that you cannot capture shadows and reflections in their respective layers.

NOTE that this option isn't ignoring objects on the non-active layer for secondary rays but this will change in 2.22 (i.e. the option behaves as if objects on the non-active layer aren't there at all).

cheers,
Thomas

Yes, I need to introduce this feature in the LightWave plugin. It is not available yet.
