Hi all,

Hope all is well in OctaneLand!?

I'm on the lookout to beef up my current rig, but don't want to throw money at it as I only do the odd bit of 3D freelance work now. I'm thinking about adding a GTX 295 or something, I will eventually go for a 470 but no need at the moment.

My question is, if I add the 295 in with my 9800GT, will I effectively get 3 cards to use OR with? Mainly I would be using the secondary card (295) for rendering and the 1st one for Win7, but if there's ever a crunch time would it be possible to have both cards churning out renders?

I'm also using a decent 650W PSU, 3 HD's (1 being SSD), DVD (which I never use so could disable it), and the specs in my sig. It should be OK to add something like the 295 or maybe even a 285?

cheers

I'd just add a GTX470 and you're PSU should handle it.
i would'nt go for a GTX200 series.

I am a little concerned about this generation of nVidia cards, I was thinking of taking the plunge when 2nd generation models start appearing (if they sort out heat issues). My current rig is stupidly high at the moment, around 58 (unclocked and water)!!! May be that I need to re-apply paste to the CPU as it's about 8 months since I did it.

But it is quite a concern that I have, and maybe towards the end of the year I'll upgrade to a brand new high end spec PC.

Looks like the 470 is the only option, only have space for 1 GFX card anyway! I guess by the time I get another PC I could then have 2 470's running in parallel :)

Thanks for the response
