Hi everyone,
Maybe someone can help me with this, is there a way to use an HDRI image for reflections only with Octane and Max? I want to preview my renders without having the HDRI image in the background as the environment.
Thank you,
Justin

I too would like to know if this is possible.
Similarly, when using a texture node with the Daylight system can one hide the actual visibility of the texture and only use what it reflects off an object?

Turning "alphachannel" on in the kernel settings should remove the background and show full alpha wherever the background is exposed.renderspaz wrote:Hi everyone,

Yes this will work! Especially when it comes to post, thank you FooZe.

What about when used in combination with the Daylight system - where we just want the HDR or a texture node to add extra refections without being visible themselves, but still have the Daylight background seen?

as far as I know. it's not possible & taking into account unbiased nature of this engine, probably never will =)pegot wrote:What about when used in combination with the Daylight system - where we just want the HDR or a texture node to add extra refections without being visible themselves, but still have the Daylight background seen?
In render engine no, but using the method above to get the reflections and then rendering just a daylight background and compositing in post could be an alternative. I would imagine just rendering an empty daylight scene would be rather quick.
