Hello everyone,
I'm trying to get started with Octane and I'm just not sure where to start. I currently have the student version of Octane standalone and the Daz Plugin. Out of the box, with auto-generated materials, one mesh emmitter and environment, it looked pretty darn good. It was when I was trying to up my game that I started having issues that I don't understand. I have a scene with just Aiko 6, and I've posted a picture below.
Questions:
1. Why does the nodegraph editor have no nodes? Is this how it is supposed to look? Would it look different if I had the commercial version of the standalone?
2. I have the Tony Sculptor skin on everything but the face, and I couldn't get it to not look red. When I've done some research on the skin, I see people with much different looking nodegraphs, with nodes. I can't figure out how to get that so I can edit it and plug textures in.
3. I have the Daz SSS skin on the face, and I replaced all the textures with the diffuse, spec, and bump, but don't know how to make it not look white.
One picture, so many questions

Hello! Welcome to Octane!
1. You need to use the smart unfold feature to see the details of the nodes. Right click and select unfold. This can sometimes lead to a crash, make sure to save before you do that.
2. Haven't used that one much, I will need to have a look.
3. I used that material as my default before I bought the Redspec shaders. I usually work well. Did you scroll all the way down and replace the texture maps everywhere? It is a mix of materials and the maps need to be set in several places. If you have it already everywhere post a shot of the setup and I'll have a look!

OK, just tested the DAZ_SSS shader from the database and it works for me as usual if all texture maps are set correctly. You are using the free version which is limited to Octane 1.2 if I recall correctly? I seem to remember that there where some issues that sometimes the material would not apply correctly. You might be running into that. You could try and see if the shader applies correctly in Octane standalone. I can't test this as I am using the 2.1 pre-release.

Thanks so much TD,
When I right-click on the node, smart unfold is greyed out. I think that is because I'm using the version 1.2, and the shader is too complex to unfold in that version, and is probably why it won't react correctly,
I exported the mesh and imported into the 1.2 standalone and it seems to work fine. I'd rather work within DAZ if possible, though. You're using the 2.0 standalone, and it works within DAZ there?
Thank you again.

You are right the greyed out "unfold" is likely due to the 1.2 version. I am using the 5th pre-release of the OcDS 2 plugin and it works generally pretty well for me for still renders (there are significant animation issues but that is not a primary concern for me currently).
Both the DAZ_SSS and the Redspec Shader for Genesis 2 work fine in that version.
However, you would need the full version of Octane 2 and the plugin for that as there is no student version of Octane 2.

Hi,
as mentioned by the poster before me - the error you are experiencing stems from version 1.2 of the DS plug-in.
For the RedSpec shaders to work, you would need to update to version 2.1 (5th pre-release) which you can download here http://render.otoy.com/customerdownload ... Setup5.exe.
Let me know, if this fixed your problem.
