I just purchased a GTX 285 for the Mac and did EXTENSIVE research to see it would work with the model that I have. (Never really got a good answer from Nvidia or Apple) As I go to instal the bloomin drivers it says not nividia is not compatible with this mac. I have not installed the card yet and i am hoping thats why... but I really do not want to unwrap this thing in anyway as I doubt I can return it if I do.
Does anyone know for sure if you need to have an Nvidia card in the machine just to instal the drivers. Its probably a dumb question but hey I am hoping I have not bought a lemon.
Thanks
I tried to find the latest drivers from Nvidia but f there is secret MAC site that anyone knows of.... love to hear it
Thanks
GTX 285

Thanks Radiance
Apple has limited knowledge and they point you to Nvidia who points you to Apple. I am pretty sure it will work. I may just need to upgrade the ram speed. Which I am willing to do.
Keep up teh great work... coming along nicely

p3taoctane,
Did you get the card directly from Apple? I'm also considering this card since this seems to be the only GTX for the mac but most resellers' site indicate this card is not on their stock.
Do you mind sharing from where did you order this card?
Could you continue to post here about the performance or any problems encountered with this card?
Thanks.

Yeah got it directly form Apple. I still have not heard definitively if the error I am getting if because I have no card installed or if I need faster ram. I have held off installing it until I am more sure about the outcome.
Will keep this updated if I am succesful though

I got a GTX 285 for my Mac Pro(2009) last week and it runs fine. I installed the card and the os x said I didn't need to install any drivers it just worked. But to run Octane you do need to install the Cuda stuff, in the correct order.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Can I ask what speed your ram is? And what model number you have?
Thanks
