Hi,
we bought the Plugin & Standalone last week and since then we experience the same reproducable error within 3DS Max.

First of all the Standalone (2.2, 2.16) works fine on it's own.

After a fresh install of the plugin it works too, but if you restart Max again the plugin cannot find any graphics card - result is obviously no rendering.
We repeated this process several times and with different plugin version (2.04, 2.16, 2.20) and it always turned out the same. No Device found.

Workstation Specs.:
3DS MAX 2015 (EXT1 )

Win 7 64bit
Dual Xeon v3
GTX 780

Help is appreciated, since we can't really use the program right now.
Thank you!

Hi, What NVIDIA driver do you have (make sure you have the latest NVIDIA driver).
Does restarting the machine also allow octane to start again? (without re-installing the plugin).
If it does, then try logging off and back on (rather than a full restart) - does this also allow the plugin to find the GPU again?

Hi Fooze,
thanks for your reply.

- Nvidia Driver is the latest.
- Deactivation and Re-Activation do not change anything. No Device.
- Restarting doesn't help too. No Device.

Would be really thankful for a solution, because right now
octane is useless for us.

Thanks in advance!

I know this may be a lot of effort to go to, but it will help troubleshoot...
Does octane run fine on a fresh install of 3ds max, without any other plugins installed?

Hello Fooze,
thanks again for your reply.
We really can't go that way and deinstall & reinstall everything just for testing this out, because the workstation is used on a daily basis.

Vray-RT works just fine with this machine. So, i guess the problem might be in the plugin?
Is there any other solution?

Thanks in advance!

What does the octane "show error log" say (this is found in the render settings under the kernel type box/settings)?

Hi Fooze,
here is the error log.
Bu as i said, it works fine in the standalone and vray-rt. So Cuda Drivers should be fine.

OctaneRender version 2.20 (2200002)

CUDA error 100 on device -1: No CUDA-capable devices were detected by the installed CUDA driver.
-> failed to initialise CUDA driver API

Can you please check the NVIDIA control panel for your exact driver version?
Also check c:\windows\system32\nvcuda.dll, right click on it and goto properties -> Details and post a screenshot of this please.

Hi Fooze,
the Driver Version is: 347.52
The Cuda Version is: 7.0.23

Should be all the latest as far as i know.

Hope this helps for finding the bug.

Thank you.

Hi Thanks for that, It helps for trying to reproduce a problem to have as much details as possible.
At this stage I'm really not sure what is going on - never seen this before with any plugins...

Do you have any other GPU's in your system? (eg: ATI card for display?).
Is Vray-RT definitely setup to use CUDA (and not OpenCL)?
