I like my 970. Its dead silent, and faster than my 780.

just out of curiousity, Hydra, Could You give us more data -like someOne whos running both cards at the same rig, I guess- how 970 compares to 780? how You stack the cards inside? (let's say one card might breath easier - that will give a bit of skew in data..)

No doubt about it. Its hilarious! And yes... I feel a bit ripped.

Back in the day I wrote a paper on memory redundancy. Facing declining manufacturing yields, components (memory) are built with redundant parts (about 20%) which are fuse blown into use based on testing. This is the first I've seen with processors but its obvious when you think about. Even Intel processors are sorted by their ability work at different clock frequencies.

Does anyone at Otoy know how much this affects rendering? Or do I need to do what the customer did at 2:19 in the video?

Well 780M is not 780, Those two arent comparable at all. 780 has lot more cores (2304 vs 1536) and they run at faster clock and memory is faster also so it's no wonder that 970 is faster than 780M but that letter behid number means a whole world of difference ;).
