Yeah, with absolutely zero effort on my part :)

As thd said, it's the textures that take up memory. These take up an extra bit, as they add onother map to control the SSS. BUT! Remember that very often you don't need those huge maps. Resize all of mine to 1/4 or 1/2 and only use the full size if nessecary. This can easily be done withing the plugin.

Look at the image I posted. It's 800 pixels tall. To me it makes no sense to use eye textures of 4000x4000 when the eye ends up being 50 pixels tall! Using maps intelligently will let you get a lot of milage out of a normal GPU :)

EDIT: Complaints about VRAM may have been caused by a bad install on my end. Reinstalling redspecs halved the VRAM usage.

Having read the thread you linked to it seems a shame that these beautiful shaders are so VRAM hungry. Even with 4GB VRAM I couldn't afford to use the shaders if they use so much of it.

Although our shaders will use a little more VRAM, it will be usually something around 20-30 %, not more.

PS: In OctaneStandalone and in the Poser plug-in VRAM texture limitations are effectively not present anymore, since you can now also render "out-of-core" meaning you can utilize your PCs regular RAM to store map information.

Geometry size limits are not affected by this.

Yup, we know this and are working on it.
Problem is, that a lot changed since plug-in version 1.2. Changes that make it impossible to retain the shader structure we released initially.

This means that we completely have to re-design the shader structure to accomodate for all changes made in pre-release 5.
Chances are everything is going to change again with the next pre-release respectively the next full release.

The Tony Sculptor Hair in the live DB is really good if you want to use that for now. I use the second version and make adjustments to it as I need. Here Are some images I've used it in. I too have purchased the redspecc bentley hair, mainly so I can compare which shader I like better, so i too am waiting to use it lol.

Hi,

I'm wondering if it is better to purchase the shaders for G2F from your store, or just get the Belle shaders from DAZ3d. Is there an advantage of either?

Thanks in advance, looking forward to using one or the other of them!

The RedSpec TGX tailored products available through the DAZ3D storefront are figure-specific shaders, customized to work best on these specific base figures.
This means that we not only design custom SSS maps for every character, but also make shader-adjustments if we see that the basic setup is not working well enough.

For all figures that don't have such a figure-specific shader, the base versions available through our own storefront at www.redspec-sss.com are the best solution.

Hope this helps :)
