Hey Guys!

I want to start a render slave with some shiny new 900 series cards. I just purchased another octane license for the machine. But while trying to access it through network rendering it shows as 'unavailable'. Do I need to have a copy of Maya on the machine also? I am only using it as a slave.

I assume it is working the same for all plugins... and you only need the standalone for using as slave.
Your firewall must allow connection... I overlooked that once and it did not connect because of that.
Maybe you have the same?

Remember that the version of the slave must be exactly the same as the engine version used by the plugin (this is the first part of the plugin version string).

So, I will have to use a 2.16 plug-in?

2.11 and 2.20 work over the network.
edit: that should read 2.11 on master and slaves or 2.20 on master and all slaves.

Not sure about 2.16.

Just found this post, I am also having trouble with this. Both master and slave have the same version, the standalone will recognize the network slave GPU's.
But when inside Maya, within Network Pref's, it can see the slave but GPU's are 0 and say unavailable.

Ok, I just realized that the Standalone version is 2.16 and my maya plug is version 2.20 - 6.1
Is that the reason why it doesn't recognize networked GPU's? How do I get the versions to match? I checked the downloads section and
I couldn't find matching versions.

Yep, they need to match.

These development builds are in the Maya forum.

Ok, I just checked and the last version of the maya plug below 2.20 is 2.15, so if I went backwards to that version, it still wouldn't match my standalone 2.16. The next version down from standalone is 1.55. Also inside the customer area downloads section, no version of the maya plug and standalone match version numbers.
I really must be missing something huge here. Can anyone post links or instructions on getting matching versions?
