So I upgraded from a 640 to a 960 today specifically for Octane, but now Octane in Daz won't use the card (it shows up but won't stay checked) gives me a "Unknown NVIDIA GPU" error in the message log, and octane won't actually recognize an activation. Sup?
The OctaneRender Student version requires a compatible NVIDIA CUDA capable card, Compute Capability 3.5 or lower.
However, the 960 has Compute Capability 5.2, and therefore is not compatible with the student version.

The two best options are to either:
1.) Do a copy of your Daz Studio Install (you can just copy the main folder to an alternate location), delete the plugin files for Octane, and install to the alternate location (you can have both versions work, just not at the same time without an issue somewhere). This is also a little more comprehensive in that you are effectively starting with a clean slate in the second location, while keeping an effective alternate version to test issues.
2.) Usually faster, but may or may not give you any sort of results would be to login to your account up at the top of the page, and deactivate the plugin in your OctaneLive Accounts. Wait (they recommend about a half hour. I've done it in about a minute a few times. I'll say five minutes is a reasonably safe bet) and reactivate. More often than not, this clears up activation issues.
At that point, if you are getting nowhere, you need to contact Otoy customer service to see what potential issues are going on.
Good luck, and happy rendering
