I upgraded my rig with 2x gtx 780 6gb cards.
Here's a render I did with it, just some random tech stuff..
Directlighting Gi_Diffuse, round about 15 minutes.

No the Diffuse must be black. The only thing that physically changes is the color of the specular - I simply used a standard cinema gradient with some turbulence on it.
