Hi all
I recently converted from Max to Modo and have been using Octane for about a year. I have a couple of questions regarding Octane for Modo.

Is there a way to get a material preview window in the octane render setup window or elsewhere?

Can I assign materials to geometry and get them to show in the octane viewport immediately, without having to update first?

I will surely come across more questions on my way to becoming a Modo Guru, so keep an eye out.

Thanks a bunch

For the first question, I don't think so. But you can either use the material ball scene in modo and save out the materials as presets. or you can create the material in the standalone and save it to your local db then import it into modo.

And for the second question, I think it has to update just because it has to update. Nothing is really immediate, smaller scenes it seems immediate but really it is updating. I am currently working on a huge scene right now so I break stuff off into separate files, then texture them (so it updates faster) then bring the textures back into my main scene. Saves a ton of time because if I try to make a texture change in my main scene I am looking at about 3 minutes of waiting for the update. Which feels like eternity, but I understand I am working on a huge scene so its expected...

This is not currently possible. I have looked at implementing it in the past - but due to some technical considerations with the way Modo handles threads - it was not something I could get to work both robustly and with satisfactory performance.

If you tick Live Geometry Update on the mesh, then material assignments should update immediately in the Viewport without needing a refresh.
