I've been playing with render passes to see how they work. One thing I noticed is that I am getting a white ring between my shadows and my object. also, the RLMa layer has a black line around the alpha. When used it makes the white border around the object more prominent.
Is there any way to make the shadow pass act more like if you turn visibility off of the object casting the shadow so the shadow actually continues under the object? I think that would be easier for compositing and eliminate the white ring.

Hi,

Can you post a screenshot of what is happening? We will investigate the black border around the main pass. Which shadow passes are you using and what blend modes?

It should be possible to turn off object visibility in the object layer to get the full shadow- if not, it's a bug.

cheers,
Thomas

Blackbody emission is not working in material with scattering medium, it worked previously with 2.16a.

Hmm, here it works. Could you post an example?

Hi Kavorka,

I had the change to cross check with Octane. I noticed that indeed the edges on the black and white pass are wrong. We will fix this in the next release.

However it seems that you are trying to use the mask. You can composite on a backplate without it. What passes are you using and how are you compositing them in post?

I will write up a post explaining how to use the render layer system.

cheers,
Thomas

Sure, here with v. 2.16a
version 2.16a.jpg
and here with v. 2.20
version 2.20.jpg
With v. 2.20, there is no light in the pool.

Ah ok. I was looking for emission in a diffuse material with a scatter medium. I found the issue and it will be fixed with the next release. Thanks for your feedback.
