I just purchased a GTX 285 for the Mac and did EXTENSIVE research to see it would work with the model that I have. (Never really got a good answer from Nvidia or Apple) As I go to instal the bloomin drivers it says not nividia is not compatible with this mac. I have not installed the card yet and i am hoping thats why... but I really do not want to unwrap this thing in anyway as I doubt I can return it if I do.

Does anyone know for sure if you need to have an Nvidia card in the machine just to instal the drivers. Its probably a dumb question but hey I am hoping I have not bought a lemon.

Thanks

I tried to find the latest drivers from Nvidia but f there is secret MAC site that anyone knows of.... love to hear it

Thanks

Probably not. I've tried to do that a few times on the PC and the nvidia installer always terminates if a supported card isn't in the system.

Hi!
following Mac Store info, the GTX285 Mac Edition 1Gb should be compatible with Mac pros early 2008 (and newer, of course): http://www.apple-history.com/
